The banned words is not a formal list, but rather department's trying to avoid running afoul of Trump's numerous executive orders. A selection of words (as of April 28, 2025):
- Sex and gender: bisexual, female, gay, gender, lesbian, orientation, prnouns, queer, sex, sexuality, they/them, transgender, women
- Race: BIPOC, Black, hate speech, hispanic, indigenous, minorities, Native American, race, racism
- Science and health: abortion, alternative energy, autism, carbon footprint, carbon sequestration, clean energy, clean water, climate change, climate models, climate science, Covid-19, global warming, measles, mental health, nuclear energy, obesity, peanut allergies, pollution, runoff, steam cell research, vaccines, water pollution, wind power
- DEI: accessible, advocacy, affordable housing, DEI, disability, inequality, low-income housing, underrepresented
- Common words: belong, bias, community, diverse, Gulf of Mexico, marijuana, trauma, victim
