DOGE indiscriminately fired probationary employees, which included recently promoted federal workers, under the guise of "poor performance" - February 13, 2025
Part of 2 threads: DOGELayoffs
Administration
Executive overreach
Details
Probationary employees are both recent hires, individuals who transferred, and individuals who were promoted. The loss of recently promoted employees means some of the governments best and rising federal workers were lost.
The layoffs targeted probationary employees because they lack legal protections like prior notice, severance, or right to appeal.
Many fired employees had stellar performance reviews. The mass firing for "poor performance" may impact their ability to find another job in the federal government.
