Trump instigated a riot at the Capitol on January 6 - January 6, 2021

Part of 1 thread: January 6
Trump
Election fraud

Details

Trump riled up his supporters with false claims of election fraud. He then directed them to march over the Capitol "peacefully and patriotically", while at the same time telling them this was "a matter of national security" and "if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore". Some other quotes from his speech:

- All of us here today do not want to see our election victory stolen by emboldened radical-left Democrats, which is what they're doing.

- We will never give up, we will never concede. It doesn't happen. You don't concede when there's theft involved.

- We will not let them silence your voices. We're not going to let it happen, I'm not going to let it happen. (Audience chants: "Fight for Trump.") Thank you. And I'd love to have if those tens of thousands of people would be allowed. The military, the secret service.

- But we look at the facts and our election was so corrupt that in the history of this country we've never seen anything like it.

- No third-world countries would even attempt to do what we caught them doing.

Rating justification

Trump's speech was one of many attempts to change the outcome of the 2020 election. He directed his supporters to fight against the election certification, an unconstitutional action.
