The comments were made at the National Association of Black Journalists conference. Harris is of Jamaican and Indian descent, but Trump falsely alleged Harris only promoted her Indian heritage.

He added, "So I don't know, is she Indian or is she Black? But you know what, I respect either one, but she obviously doesn't, because she was Indian all the way, and then all of a sudden she made a turn, and she went - she became a Black person."

The following day, he posted a photo of Harris in wearing a sari with the caption: “Your warmth, friendship, and love of your Indian Heritage are very much appreciated.”
