Trump nominated antivaxxer and conspiracy theorist RFK Jr as Secretary of Health and Human Services - November 14, 2024
Details
RFK Jr has no prior education or formal experience in public health. His notoriety in the public health field stems from promoting numerous conspiracy theories.
RFK Jr has claimed vaccines cause autism and that vaccination is a "holocaust" against children. He cited a study in frogs to claim that a pesticide caused gender dysmorphia. He believes the clouds that form behind airplanes are chemicals being sprayed on the public, and has suggest Lyme disease was a bioweapon developed in Connecticut despite existing for hundreds of years. He also posited that COVID-19 was ethnically targeted to spare Chinese people and Ashkenazi Jews and attack white and black people.
The spread of the antivax movement has caused the resurgence of diseases like measles and resulted in deaths.
RFK Jr announced he was running for president in 2023. He was highly critical of Trump, stating in May 2023 that "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will I join Donald Trump on an electoral ticket," and in July 2024 a “terrible human being. The worse president ever and barely human. He is probably a sociopath.” Once it became clear he was not going to win, RFK Jr reportedly attempted to trade his endorsement for a cabinet position. Harris did not take the meeting.
Prior to his confirmation, Kennedy admitted to dumping the carcass of bear pup in Central Park and claimed his neurological issues stemmed from a worm that ate part of his brain.
