The event took place during the George Floyd protests in DC as a show of strength following Trump being moved to an underground bunker in the White House.

Relocating the protestors was already planned, but accelerated and aggrevated by law enforcement and Trump's sudden visit. The rector of the church stated the protesters were peaceful.

Trump spent 5 minutes on church grounds to pose for photographs and left. He did not enter the church.
