FAQ
Why did you make this website?
Because I love my country. As a kid I hung an American flag in my bedroom. I looked forward to every US history and civics class. And Donald Trump is nearly the opposite of everything this country and the office of President of the United States is meant to stand for.
Our democracy was founded to elect leaders who would serve all constituents. It was not maintained for centuries just for one man to invent a culture war against half of his own country and then exploit loopholes, violate ethics, and ignore our Constitution to build their own wealth, power, and legacy.
Striking out at our allies, stripping freedoms from those on our soil, dismantling our independent agencies, ignoring the law and court orders, defunding our institutions and reversing decades of technological and scientific progress, denigrating those who served our country, using the office of the President for personal enrichment, positioning himself for a third term, and issuing blatantly unconstitutional executive orders knowing it will takes months for the Supreme Court to overturn them -- these and more fly in the face of everything I was taught to love about America. There's a lot wrong here, and I want you to remember all of it.
Hasn't Trump done anything good?
Sure. On the surface I can agree with a number of his policies. Lowering the national debt, but through methodical spending cuts and not impulsive slash-and-burn mass layoffs. Manufacturing in America, but through investment in technologies of the future like Biotech and CleanTech and not trade wars.
However, I find that I cannot trust what Trump says about his successes. Trump is a promoter. He frequently makes bold claims about his accomplishments that are easily proven false. He takes credit for other's successes and refuses to take any blame. He enacts ineffectual policies for show and immediately declares victory. It would be easier to give Trump credit if he was not so determined to lie.
The thing is, Trump will always win in the short term. He'll win because he is spending decades of US hegemony, trillions in goodwill, and generations of effort at the federal level. This makes it hard to measure the long-term costs of Donald Trump's actions and their impact on the world that our children and grandchildren will inherit. We should at least have a record that balances the overly positive spin cast by Trump's administration.
Doesn't every politician do this?
No. It is wrong to say that every politician behaves the same way. In fact, Trump's success at politics is precisely because he does what no other politicians had done before. That's what makes him a singular figure in the GOP.
What is the "Unpresidential rating" system?
The Unpresidential rating system is a subjective measure on how unpresidential each of Trump's actions were. It generally follows this rubric:
1 star: Petty, unprofessional, hypocritical
2 stars: Incompetence, mismanagement
3 stars: Abuse of power, misinformation
4 stars: Ethics violation, conflict of interest
5 stars: Unconstitutional or illegal
Personally, I would not support a president beyond the 0 rating.
