Details
Trump finished his speech at 1:10pm and did not address the rioters until 4:17pm. In a video, he repeated claims of election fraud but that "We have to have peace. So go home. We love you. You're very special. In the 187 minutes between these events, the following occurred:"

- Pipe bombs were discovered and dismantle outside DNC and RNC headquarter
- Vice President Mike Pence was hidden by the Secret Service
- The House and Senate were locked down
- Trump tweeted that Mike Pence "didn't have the courage to do what should have been to protect our Country and our Constitution"
- Trump tweeted "Please support our Capitol Police and Law Enforcement. They are truly on the side of our Country. Stay peaceful!" and "I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue"

No official records were kept regarding the President's phone calls or his activities in the Presidential Daily Diary. He did not make any calls to law enforcement. Immediately after a curfew was imposed, Trump tweeted, "These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!"
Rating justification
Trump's inaction was one of many attempts to change the outcome of the 2020 election. He waited to see if his supporters could delay the election certification, an unconstitutional action.
