During New York v Trump, Trump posted the name, photograph, and social media account of the judge's law clerk on two separate websites. The judge imposed a gag order and ordered it taken down, but Trump only removed it from one website. Trump was fined for violating the gag order.

Trump then told reporters, "This judge is a very partisan judge, with a person who's very partisan sitting alongside of him, perhaps even much more partisan than he is," resulting in a second gag order violation.

Trump also made comments against the judge's wife as well as a social media post that linked to a story containing Attorney General Letitia James's home address.

Trump's attacks on the clerk led to "hundreds of threatening and harassing voicemail messages", with the clerk stating they receive 20-30 calls a day and 30-50 messages via social media, LinkedIn, and email
